The Printworks supports a number of charities in the Greater Manchester region. We have raised funds for many years for The Booth Centre, The Christie and Forever Manchester. We also support other charities where we can for example we supported Give Blood as part of our 2015 Halloween event and Greater Sport Manchester as part of our Summer Fitness Festival. We are always looking to team our exciting events with a charity partner. We are often approached by community members who have their own personal charities for example USS Phoenix dressed up as Star Trek characters to raise money for Alzheimer and MIND and there are often choir singers at Christmas raising funds for a charity close to their hearts.
The Printworks has supported The Booth Centre from the funds raised from the rooftop garden. The Booth Centre is a small charity working directly with homeless people. The money we raise goes towards support over 250 people who visit the centre each week. The numbers of people visiting the centre has risen dramatically in the past 12 months.
As well as emergency help like food and showers, The Booth Centre offers support, advice and activities for those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. At the Booth Centre people have the chance to get involved with activities such as art, drama, music and sports, which help them to build their skills and confidence and work towards a more positive future.
Our rooftop garden harvests fruit and vegetables that are donated to The Booth Centre to make meals for their visitors. There were previously six chickens also housed on the roof with proceeds from the egg sales donated to the charity. The four bee hives on the roof, managed in conjunction with Hard Rock Cafe Manchester, yielded over 200 jars of honey with the money raised split between The Booth Centre and Forever Manchester.
The Printworks has supported Forever Manchester for five years and raises funds in lots of different ways. Along with the money raised from the honey sales The Printworks supported Forever Manchester during Forever Manchester week by donating prizes.
Recently The Printworks has created a charity calendar featuring the security guards from the scheme. These were sold at £5 per calendar with the money raised going to the charity.
Forever Manchester is a charity that funds and supports thousands of community activities across Greater Manchester.
Through generous contributions from individuals and businesses, Forever Manchester strengthens communities and enriches local life by inspiring local people to do extraordinary things together.
The Printworks have supported The Christie in the past with cake sales and abseils however in 2015 we stepped it up a gear and hosted the first ever Manchester Soul Festival. 30 bands, solo artists and DJ’s, over ten hours of music, 49,000 people and over £22,500 raised for charity we decided to do it all again in 2016!
The event took place on 28 August 2016 with over 50 performers singing their way around The Printworks, performed on the Frank Byrne stage and raised lots of cash for The Christie. Visit our events page for more info.
The Printworks is owned by Land Securities who support MENCAP across the portfolio. Mencap challenges stereotypes through its Young Ambassadors programme, which features young people with learning disabilities and focuses on what they can do, rather than what they can’t do. We are aiming to raise funds to support 100 Young Ambassadors through their programme which gives them access to work experience opportunities.
The Printworks have supported MENCAP with hosting events like the Star Wars day where all proceeds raised went towards the charity. MENCAP Ambassadors and volunteers were also involved in the day.
