The US-Mexican border has been the bloody front for a drug war that has waged for decades. But when the cartel ups the ante and begins transporting terrorists into America, it becomes clear that they’re not afraid to cross the line. And the US government has no choice but to respond accordingly.
Enter Alejandro Gillick (Benicio del Toro).
An ex-hitman with a vendetta against the drug lord who murdered his family, Alejandro is gritty, rough, and unconventional – which happens to make him the perfect weapon.
Partnered with federal agent Matt Graver (Josh Brolin), the two men make a deadly team. And with license from the government to operate outside the rules, they set out to start a whole new war – but this time, they’re going to pit the Mexican cartels against each other.
To light the fuse, Alejandro kidnaps the daughter of one of the most notorious gang leaders. But when you mess with the cartel, things never go according to plan.
Before long, the conflict escalates beyond anything anyone could’ve anticipated. As the plan begins to unravel, it’s not just the enemy that they’re up against – they turn against each other.
