We have been growing an abundance of rhubarb on our renowned rooftop garden this year and what better way to put it to use than in a series of fruity cocktails?
In 2015 the harvested rhubarb was given to The Printworks’ tenant Waxy O’Connor’s, who made a rhubarb pie and donated to the complex’s chosen charity, The Booth Centre. This year, The Printworks teamed up with Hard Rock Cafe Manchester and together, decided to shake things up a little!
After calling upon Hard Rock Cafe’s master mixologist, Nathan Larkin, a series of rhubarb cocktails were created and we can’t wait to share these with you!
At our Raise the Rhuf: A Rhubarb Special event, where we showcased the new cocktails to bloggers and the media, the Rhubarb Old Fashioned cocktail was a bit of a ‘marmite’ cocktail for our guests. The sharpness of the rhubarb bitters with the hard hit of the gin made this cocktail either a lover or a hater for guests. Hard Rock Cafe’s mixologist, Nathan Larkin, described the cocktail saying: “A Rhubarb Old Fashioned. Enjoy this cocktail the old fashioned way with Gin, Rhubarb bitters and Rhubarb and rosemary syrup.”
To make this drink you will need to have some rhubarb syrup and rhubarb bitters which you can see from our first blog post.
To make the cocktail you will need:
50 ml Gin
3 dash rhubarb bitters
12.5 ml rhubarb syrup
Pour the gin, bitters and syrup over ice. Stir and strain into a fresh glass with ice. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and a twist of lemon. Enjoy!
