Inspired by her Granddad – the Manchester music legend Frank Byrne – Darcy Byrne, aged 9, gave away her crowning glory for those less fortunate than her as she had her hair cut on stage at The Manchester Soul Festival on 27 August.
She had the chop on the main stage which was named after her grandfather in front of 40,000 plus revellers all enjoying the event that Frank worked tirelessly to create.
Darcy, who was extremely close to her granddad, decided that she would like to follow in his footsteps and continue to raise money for the charity which was so close to his heart. Darcy has been raising money by asking her school friends to join her on a sponsored eight-mile walk – the distance between her school, Lily Lane in Moston, and the hospital in South Manchester as well as other fundraising activities.
Darcy’s long locks have pretty much never been cut and she got her hair chopped into a sleek bob so her hair could be donated to the Princes’ Trust to be made into wigs for children that have lost their hair whilst undergoing cancer treatment.
Manchester’s, Scott Thomas, created a special video for Darcy wishing her well on the big day which gave her an extra confidence boost! Darcy’s hair looks fab and we cannot wait to hear her overall total! Well done Darcy!
